Public Service Announcement from the Town of Charlestown

🚫 Public Service Announcement from the Town of Charlestown 🚫

Please DO NOT Place Items or Signs Along the Roadway or on RI Energy Utility Poles

We understand that some residents may believe it's acceptable to leave old furniture, household items, or place signs along the Town’s and State’s rights-of-way. Some may not have access to a truck, want to avoid disposal fees, or hope that someone in need will take the items. However, here’s what really happens:

➡️ These items are often left out too long, become damaged by weather, and ultimately lose any usable value.
➡️ The Town or State is then forced to collect and dispose of these items at our local transfer stations—placing an unnecessary burden on municipal resources.

📌 Additionally, it is strictly prohibited to:

  • Attach business signs, yard sale signs, estate sale notices, or any signage to RI Energy telephone poles.
  • Place signs of any kind along roadways or intersections.

Not only are these signs and discarded items unsightly, but they also create dangerous distractions for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians—especially at busy intersections.

🚴‍♀️ Let’s keep our roads clean, safe, and welcoming.
Please dispose of unwanted items properly and advertise events or services in appropriate, permitted spaces.

We thank you for your cooperation in helping maintain the safety and appearance of our beautiful town.
