Breachway Regression during 2024
Dating back to Hurricane Sandy, the Breachway has been fighting to protect the channel and all it holds beyond it. After a series of three consecutive storms in December and January of 2023 into 2024, the Breachway simply could not keep up.
The breachway is designed to take the hit from storms, and then collect sand and rebuild over a short period of time. But three very large "Nor'easter" style storms all within three weeks of one another had pushed the walls beyond their limits. The water levels and sand volume have been overrun and depleted respectively, leaving a small water channel to form inside the west side wall of the breachway.
